Hints for giving a presentation within the KCSE Seminar Series

The audience attending KCSE Seminars are PhD students, researchers and professors from the various KCSE member departments, plus other interested people. Whereas most of the audience will have a strong background in numerical methods and scientific computing, the attending people will usually not be experts in the particular application case that is discussed in the seminar. Therefore, to make the seminars interesting for all the intended audiences, it is very important to give a extended introduction to the application case at hand, introducing the basic concepts and applications such that a non-expert can follow. One of the main focus of a KCSE talk should lie on the numerical methods that have been applied, possibly also including some information on the simulation codes, computers and code performance.

The KCSE seminars usually last for approximately 45 minutes. Please include some time for questions of the audience at the end, therefore we recommend to limit the speaking time to about 35 minutes.

We will always have a projector (VGA) available in the lecture room. In case needed, we can also arrange for a Windows laptop; then you only need to provide the PDF (preferred) or Powerpoint file.
