Abstract

Bounded acoustic beams in a dissipative fluid are described by a three-dimensional nonlinear equation, the Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov (KZK) equation. Circular beams are considered. The sound field is developed as a power series in the transverse radial coordinate. A class of these power series solutions is given by solutions of a generalized Burgers' equation. One special solution in this class, giving a diverging beam, was studied analytically earlier in the literature. Another special solution, describing a shock wave in a converging beam, is studied in this paper.
