KTH Computational Science and Engineering Centre (KCSE)
The remarkable evolution of large scale computations has in recent years created a new and revolutionary way of performing research. Simulations have, together with theoretical analysis and traditional experimental research, become an independent and extremely useful tool to gain new knowledge. This new multi-disciplinary field is often called Computational Science and Engineering or CSE. Recently, CSE has been established as a discipline in its own right with research centers, departments and education programs around the world.

The Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC)
The Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC) is formed by the universities in Stockholm and Linköping
– KTH, Linköping University (LiU), Stockholm University (SU) and Karolinska Institutet (KI) – around
the two largest high-performance computing centres in Sweden: PDC at KTH and NSC at LiU. Research
at SeRC is focused on the collaboration between tool makers and tool users, and this proposal brings
together a core of nationally leading IT research teams and leading scientists in selected strategic application
areas. The proposed Swedish e-Science Research Center will constitute a leading visionary e-Science
node with a national scope and strong international ties. The four partner universities are together committed
to strengthening and shaping the emerging e-Science landscape in Sweden and to give research in
this field clear priority in their strategic plans.

CCGEx
The Competence Center for Gas Exchange focuses on research regarding gas management in modern internal combustion engines for vehicles.xi
The aim of the research is to make engines more effective and environment-friendly thus to decrease fuel
consumption without losing performance, lower emissions of hazardous substances and to control sound
generation and attenuation in the engine gas handling system.
