Research Centre for the Fluid Mechanics of Industrial Processes

On June 13, an agreement between a number of Swedish industrial companies, KTH and NUTEK was signed for the formation of a Research Centre for the Fluid Mechanics of Industrial Processes. The activities of the centre will start on July 1 1995. The total turnover during the first two years will be 18 MSEK. After two years, the centre activities will be reviwed and, if found satisfactory, a new agreement will then be signed, most likely with additional industrial partners. The second agreement will cover a period between five and ten years and the annual turnover can be doubled compared to the initial period.

At KTH, the following departments will participate in the centre:

The industrial partners are the following

The activities within the centre will mainly be made up by training of graduate students for the degrees of Licentiate or Doctor of Technology. Research projects will be formulated jointly with the industrial partners of the centre and advisors from the departments at KTH. A new element of the graduate training at the centre will be that students will, during a period of their studies, actively work in industrial partners' laboratories or factories.

A permanent board of the centre will be appointed by the president of KTH during the fall of 1995. The present interimistic board consists of the following persons:

The interimistic board has met four times. At the last meeting, F. Bark was appointed director of the centre. A. Dahlkild will serve as scientific secretary of the centre and I. Wester as intendent.
