Some aspects of shell instability analyses

This paper discusses some aspects of FEM based shell instability analyses. The primary focus is on the properties of different element formulations. A co-rotational setting is used for the large-displacement, small-strain form. Three core elements are briefly described. Numerical examples show that, although the elements show very similar behaviours in the linear regime, the differences in results for non-linear and instability problems may be considerably larger.
