Model simulations of two-way coupling effects on eveolving particle-laden turbulent channel flow

Abstract

An Eulerian-Eulerian gas-particle model including two-way coupling was used to study the transient behaviour of a particle laden turbulent flow in a vertical (2D) channel. A K-omega model was used as the gas-phase turbulence model. The model with two-way coupling effects predicts a very different transient behaviour than a model with only one-way coupling taken into account even for low particle volume fractions. Simulations show that two-way coupling effects strongly decrease the transport of particles to the near wall region in the initial period.When two-way coupling is taken into account the time needed for the flow to become fully developed is found to be increased by a factor of six, for the case studied.
