AbstractPoster, Motivation: Engineering interest in micro devices, like micro-turbines and micro-burners, has experienced explosive growth during the last two decades. However, modeling and numerical simulation advances in the field lag behind the progress made at the experimental front. Real world engineering problems like the flow in a fuel cell system cannot be properly studied with the available Navier-Stokes based computational fluid dynamics methods (CFD). Our main goal is to develop an advanced numerical tool based on the lattice Boltzmann method (LB), capable of modeling key micro-scale processes in either reacting or non-reacting media. A particular objective is the application of in-house developed models on SOFCs and PEFCs and the subsequent comparison of the predictions with measurements of permeabilities and diffusivities.
