AbstractThe aim of the present work is to present a model for the transport of small hydrogen bubbles in developing channel flow. The bubbles are evolved on one of the chanel walls. The geometry, the governing paraeters and the boundary conditions are similar to that of a realistic situation in the electrode package of a conceptual industrial gas-lift chlorate reactor, in which sodium chlorate is produced with hydrogen gas as a by-product. A hydrodynamic drift-flux model is used, giving a solution for the averaged mixedure velocity field, while the motion of the mono disperse gas phase relative to the mixture, is given by constitutive laws based on empirical relations. Typical results display the volume fraction distribution and the development of the chanel flow for the electrolyte under buoyant conditions. Our results show that a bubble curtain forms at the gas evolving channel wall. This curtain becomes thicker as the diameter of the bubbles are enhanced.
