Project Description

A co-rotational triangular element is developed for the analysis of space membrane structures subjected to pressure loadings, primarily from compressible media. By separating rigid body motion and deformational displacement, the geometric non-linearity is treated by a co-rotational filter. Hyper-elastic and linear elastic material were used in the local formulations. Numerical experiments show that either material model can be used, but the linearly elastic model demands an optimal reference system. The hyper-elastic form is useful also for very large expansions. The instability behaviors of the structures must be seen as a function of either pressure or mass of gas.
