AbstractReceptivity studies require high accuracy calculations. Traditionally, these have been performed by global spectral methods, which are limited to periodic domains and simple geometries such as flat plates without leading edges. In order to treat more complex geometries, we introduce the spectral element method, which provides local spectral approximations on curvilinear elements that can capture complex geometries as well as more realistic boundary conditions. Spectral element calculations for boundary layer receptivity to freestream vortical disturbances on a flat plate with modified super-elliptic leading edge are presented. Grids, boundary conditions, validation and comparative timings are discussed.
