Temperature field behind a hot sphere at moderate Reynolds number

Vertical vorticity in NEQ for a propelled wake

This image shows the evolution of the temperature field behind a weakly heated sphere. Red indicates hot fluid and blue indicates colder fluid. The temperature here is treated as a passive scalar. From this image we can see the corkscrew like structure of the wake together with small KH rollers forming at the back of the separated shear layer. The simulation was performed using large eddy simulation (LES) with a Reynolds number of 10,000 and a Prandtl number of 1.
