I:2 The mirror effect and surface roughness in gas-evolving electrodes
|
|
Earlier work in this project has investigated the influence of gas bubble evolution in electrolytic cells in both forced and
natural convection regimes, and this will be continued for both laminar and turbulent flow. Further fundamental phenomena
to be explored will be the use of surface roughness to create controlled mixing on small scales, which experimentally is
observed to give higher current densities, and the influence of gas-evolving reactions at one electrode on the reaction
processes at the other (the so-called mirror effect).
