Vorticity magnitude for a stratified turbulent wake

Excess momentum link

This image shows the evolution of the vorticity magnitude behind a sphere moving horizontally in a stratified fluid. Red indicates large vorticity and blue indicates low vorticity. The simulation was performed using large eddy simulation (LES) with a Reynolds number of 10,000, a Froude number of 3, and a Prandtl number of 1. Here we can see the strong role of stratification in suppressing the vertical growth of the wake.
